AGTC 2026: our full recap
Golf Africa Safaris at the inaugural Africa Golf Tourism Convention — Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.
Attendance summary
Four days at Africa's first golf trade platform
The Africa Golf Tourism Convention is the continent's first dedicated golf tourism, trade and investment platform, bringing African golf destinations together with international buyers, tourism authorities, airlines, investors and industry leaders.
Golf Africa Safaris attended the inaugural edition in full — conference sessions, the exhibition floor, scheduled B2B meetings with international buyers, evening networking, and the convention golf outing where much of the real business happened.

Speaking highlights
Patrick Makamure on the Business of Golf Leadership Forum panel
Our director was invited to speak on the forum panel, drawing on years of building bespoke golf and safari journeys across Africa — from Leopard Creek and Skukuza to the Garden Route and the Cape Winelands. The points he made on stage:
01
Understanding the international golf traveller
Long lead times, high spend per head, and a preference for itineraries where every day has a story — not just a tee time.
02
Positioning Africa as a premium destination
Africa competes on experience, not price. Leopard Creek, Skukuza, Gary Player Country Club and Lost City have no equivalent anywhere in the world.
03
Packaging golf, safari and luxury
The winning product blends championship golf with Big Five game viewing, Winelands and Garden Route touring, and lodge-grade hospitality.
04
The role of the tour operator
Ground expertise, sequencing, transfers and trust are what convert interest in Africa into confirmed bookings.
05
Collaboration over competition
Destinations, courses, lodges and operators grow faster when Africa is marketed as one golf region.
