Rugby's Greatest Rivalry 2026: the recap

Springboks vs All Blacks, three Tests, three rounds of championship golf.

The series

For the first time in 30 years, a full New Zealand tour

Our Rugby's Greatest Rivalry packages ran alongside all three South African Tests, bookable one at a time or combined into a nine-day golf and rugby tour. Every package carried a round of championship golf, premium seating or a hospitality suite, 5★ stays and private transfers with a Golf Africa Safaris host throughout.

The series has now been played, so the itinerary is archived. The format is not — we build the same golf-and-fixture pairing around Test rugby, the Currie Cup and major tournaments on request.

How the tour played out

Test 1

Ellis Park, Johannesburg

22 August 2026

The series opened on the ground where the 1995 World Cup final was won. Guests played Houghton in the morning, lunched at the clubhouse and were dropped at the stadium gates in green and gold.

Test 2

Cape Town Stadium

29 August 2026

Table Mountain, Signal Hill and Lion's Head around the bowl — the most spectacular setting in world rugby. Golf on the Atlantic seaboard in the morning, hospitality suites by kick-off.

Test 3

FNB Stadium, Johannesburg

5 September 2026

The finale on the biggest stage in African rugby. Several groups added Soweto Country Club — the only golf club in the world surrounded by a township — before heading to the stadium.

What we took away

Lessons for the next sports tour

  • Pairing a championship round with match-day hospitality is what made the trip, not the rugby alone
  • Private transfers on match day removed every stress point around traffic and gates
  • Kruger safari extensions after Test 3 were the most requested add-on
  • Groups booked early — premium seating and top tee times both sell out months ahead
