The course

Ten minutes from the Kruger gates at Hazyview, Sabi River Sun is tropical Lowveld parkland — mango and macadamia country, banana palms, hornbills in the trees and the Sabie River running along the boundary.

It is a friendly, walkable layout with one very serious local hazard: the hippo dam on the sixteenth. Play it in the late afternoon, then head to the boma for dinner.

Signature hole

16th — a par 3 played alongside a resident hippo dam; the local rule is simple, do not go looking

Wildlife

Resident hippo pod, crocodile in the river, vervet monkeys, hornbills and bushbuck on the fairways.

What our golfers said

Hearing hippos grunt while you are standing over a tee shot is something else. Fun, relaxed golf in gorgeous Lowveld surroundings.

Not a championship test but a wonderful afternoon. The bird life alone is worth walking it rather than taking a cart.
Barry N.Limerick · Mpumalanga & Kruger, August
Great value and a proper African golf experience. Perfect warm-up the day before Leopard Creek.
